January 2026 - Week 2

I am currently working 50hrs/week in the hospitals. Currently I am working on this project off the side of my desk.

Objective

The goal this week is to figure out a way to record my progress and set up a website.

I have previously purchased a domain but never did anything with it. I did install a WordPress installation that was free from the website hosting company I chose, but my preference is to use simple HTML. In part, this is because I don't want all the fanciness that WordPress offers, in part I worry about maintaining the security, and in part, I don't want to write content in a place that I don't control without a much deeper understanding of how WordPress or similar utilities offer. I would prefer to document my sabbatical in a form that is more true to Tim Berner-Lee's original vision of the web.

Progress

• HTML - I poked around a bit with editors. Notepad++ is commonly used, but I settled on VS Code. It is simple and does tag closure, and likely will be a useful editor when it comes to Python programming if that is in my future. Here is a nice page reminding me on how to edit HTML. (I did consider using xCode to edit my HTML pages, but in the end it just seemed like too much editor for such a simple task.)
